The Centennial tree is located at Carcarmay Elementary School, Bacnotan, La Union.
Based from the stories of the people of Carcarmay, after the World War II, a legion of Japanese soldiers visited the municipality of Bacnotan and they wanted to drop by at the place they were once stationed as soldiers, but unfortunately, they can’t pinpoint the exact location of their former base but one of them remembered the old Acacia tree they were hanging around before.
The Centennial Tree is now becoming a landmark of Bacnotan. It was my first time to visit the place last October 4, 2013 during the Tour Your Own Province, an event of the Provincial Capitol of La Union and I was amazed of the majestic tree thus last October 29, 2013, I took the chance to bring friends from Manila and from the City of San Fernando in this wonderful place so they could also experience what I had. The tree is actually enchanting and such a beautiful backdrop for picture taking as well as to just sit and reflect while appreciating the beauty of nature.
To those interested to visit the Centennial Tree, just follow this simple direction:
for commuters:
From Manila, take a bus bound for the north like Candon, Vigan, Laoag and Abra.
then Get down at “Bitalag Junction” and take a tricycle going to Carcarmay Elementary School. or get down at Bacnotan, La Union and hire a tricycle going to Carcarmay Elementary School or ride a jeepney bound for Paraoir / Darigayos but remember to get down at barangay Ballogo junction, then take a tricycle ride going to Carcarmay Elementary School.
If you have your own ride, just enter the road going south at the Bitalag Junction then go north at the Ballogo junction then go east going at the Carcarmay Elementary School.
Visit and enjoy the beauty of the centennial tree.
