A new hero was discovered when an airport janitor, Ronald Gadayan, who earns Php 446 a day had returned over P600,000 in cash left behind at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport. From that salary, he spends about P200 a day just for transportation plus his meals that’s why he shares food with fellow workers to save. The alternately do their share like if the other brings rice, he provides the viand or the other way around.

An honest man indeed, he had decided to return the money, totaling P634,896 (about US$15,127), plus jewelry because he is not the owner and this was not the first time that he returned things left behind at the airport since whether it was small or huge amount, since he is not the owner, he had to return it.

The father of 3 kids claimed not being tempted to take the money because that is how he was taught by his parents.
It was funny when his wife was alarmed when mediamen wanted to interview him because she thought he did something wrong. Gadayan said he is set to meet with businessman Francis Chua, who is the owner of the money. He added, however, that he is not looking for a reward since he was only doing his job.

He also said he still feels overwhelmed by all the attention he has received over his act of honesty.

“Sa mga kasamahan ko, sa mga hindi ko kilala, sa LRT o sa jeep, kinakamayan ako. Hindi ko ine-expect na ganun ang magiging ano sa akin ng mga tao. Sinasabi nila hanga sila sa akin. Nagpapasalamat naman ako sa kanila,” he said when he guested together with his wife and kids in teh ABS-CBN Show, Umagang Kay Ganda.

Salute to this honest janitor.
